I got introduced to computer gaming in 2005 when my parents bought my brother a computer a Pentium 4. I used to play games like need for speed and age of empires on it. Then I started playing counter strike 1.6 and I learned that you could play multiplayer with other people.

So when my family got an wireless internet connection by the name of Qubee in 2012, I started playing online.

But I found out that I wasn’t as good as other people and this frustrated me a lot. As I was searching online for ways to get better I learned that it wasn’t me that was bad at playing games but my internet connection was bad.

By researching more I learned about ping and latency. I found out that wireless internet connection is prone to a lot of distortion and is not stable over long distances. But as I couldn’t afford any other option I lingered on with my predicament.

I got PTCL internet connection in 2017 and have been using it since. I have had a lot of problems with PTCL over this period of time and the frustration that I experienced using a wireless connection has never really gone even with a wired PTCL connection.

Problems like disconnection, low speed, high ping and jitter are common and I have to complain every month at least once time to get it fixed. Every time the technician comes he says that I should lower my connection speed( it’s 8 Mbps at the moment). I have followed his advice in the past but to no avail. The connection remains good for a week or two with problems returning with the same deal and zest as before.

Last week it rained and I missed most of the class due to it and this is the reason for me to write about the PTCL experience.

Now you might be asking that why don’t I invest in a better connection and to that I answer I don’t have a option to do so and as a result I am stuck with PTCL.

Other connections are either too expensive or suffer from the same problems as PTCL(at least according to my research) or they are outright unavailable in my area.

Yesterday, I learned about a revolutionary internet connection known as Starlink which is developed by SpaceX. Although it is quite expensive but the speed that it offers is quite a lot better as compared to my PTCL connection.

It requires no landline and connects to the internet using satellites which SpaceX intends to deploy in a low distance orbit in our atmosphere.

I anxiously await the arrival of this technology in Pakistan and hope to be one of the early adopters. Until then the PTCL experience continues on.
